I think many kids are picky eaters, but my kids may take the cake when it comes to school lunches. They have very specific things that they like to have in their lunch boxes everyday so when someone eats the “last” of anything I had bought for school lunches, it is not a great morning! What else could I do but come up with this lunch storage organization system that warns everyone what is for School Lunches Only!
These great bins are from Target and they are the perfect size to hold everything my two kids needed for a week of lunches.
I gathered up all the faves for snacks and drinks which include things like cheese sticks, pretzels, lemons (no they don’t eat them but I add a slice to their water everyday,) yogurts and my favorite snack bars, Nature’s Bakery Fig Bars. I told you all about my fig bar obsession a few months ago but now they have Organic Honey & Oat bars and Organic Brownies and they are even better! Organic foods are my jam, especially snacks. Somehow the organic fig bars taste even better than the original, and the cool mint brownies……those may be in a special bin marked “Mom ONLY.” Nature’s Bakery provided me the fig bars but all opinions are my own. You can find your own Organic Honey & Oat Bars or Brownies (seriously, try the cool mint) over on Amazon.
I have seen some versions of this idea where the bins are labeled with “Take 1” and “Take 2” so kids have the right balance of healthy snacks and treats. I think that is a great idea but I just let the kids take whatever they want for the day and usually they come home with some things they didn’t open and it goes back in the bin.
The thin rectangle bin is the perfect size for juice boxes for the week.
All of the pantry snacks are divided into single servings and arranged neatly so they can see what their choices are. Notice my cool mint brownies are NOT a choice 🙂
This is my refrigerator bin. When it comes to fruit, I don’t wash or cut it until the morning because I find that it tends to get mushy a little too quickly once I do that. I try not to make more than one trip to the grocery store in a week but mushy fruit would make me take another trip. PS have you tried cotton candy grapes? They taste just like cotton candy, it’s amazing!
You could even use an additional bin for the main course ingredients for the week. Add in your bread, meats and anything else you may need and it will all be at your fingertips.
Before you pop everything onto the shelves, you will want to add some labels. I created these and you can download your own by clicking here. Just print them out, laminate them and punch a hole for some twine.
Now everyone will know to stay away from these snacks!
