I am a huge fan of using clipboards for organization. They have been part of my command center for ages and they help me keep all those important school papers in one place for each child. But the brown, boring stock clipboards were looking a little tired so I updated them to personalized clipboards for each of my children.
I had everything I needed on hand, but even if you don’t, it is a super affordable project.

- Chalk Paint
- I used Annie Sloan Paris Grey
- Paint Brushes
- One large and one small
- Acrylic Paint
Paint your clipboard, front and back with the chalk paint.
Use the big paint brush for the majority of the board and the small brush for around the clip.
Chalk paint dries pretty quick so I just held the clip open for a bit then closed it onto the paint. It was fine.
Center a stencil onto the clipboard and paint it.
Always paint from the outside in when using a stencil. This prevents bleeding under the stencil.
After the monogram dries, find a bowl or other circular item you can trace and center it over the letter.
Use a Sharpie in your desired color, to draw a circle around the letter to give it a little more interest.
That was simple, wasn’t it?
I did one for each of my children.
If making decorating your own clipboard isn’t really your thing, here are some ready to buy options that are pretty cool too.
You can also find them on Etsy.
