Do you just love the fun colors and patterns you can add to a space with throw pillows? I have a great way for you to make your own pillow out of cloth napkins for a fraction of the cost of store bought ones. It’s simple I swear! I used to drool over gorgeous pillows that cost $50, but I could never bring myself to spend that much money on a stinkin’ pillow! After I made an envelope pillowcase with the help of my friend Jill, I knew I could make a simple pillow with ease.
I found these cloth napkins at Target in the clearance section for under $3!
It just so happened that they matched my couch perfectly! Using something like cloth napkins means that there are already finished edges which takes at least one step out of making a pillow from bolt fabric.
All I had to do was put the two napkins together with the patterns facing each other and pin 3 sides to keep them lined up. Using a simple stitch on my sewing machine I sewed them together leaving one side open to put the stuffing in.
I had these two bed pillows laying around that I never found comfortable, but never got around to throwing away. Woohoo for free stuffing! I just cut them open and used the filling for the new throw pillows.
After they were stuffed, I folded the 4th side in on itself to achieve the same look as the rest of the pillow and I hand stitched it closed. I have learned that everything is easier and comes out better if you pin it first.
And now I have some great pillows to add to my couch and they only cost me $1.50 each! Incredible right?!
Yup, I made these pillows so long ago I was still using my pellet stove. Sometimes things take me way longer than they should!
