A while back I shared my daughter’s desk with you and she has been loving it! But if you have kids that love to draw and read, you know that means there is a huge need for lots of storage. Ana White was kind enough to help me out with some plans to add a hutch to the desk for some gorgeous vertical storage and you can find her free plans here.
It was inspired by this desk found on Pottery Barn Teen.
And here is the DIY version.
You can head over and get all the fabulous instructions from Ana, but here are some photos of how the desk hutch came together for me.
I cut all the wood as per the instructions. Then, I drilled my pocket holes with my Kreg Jig (click here to see the exact one I use) and stained and painted it all. Some builds are just easier to do this way.
If your wood has any knots and you are planning on painting it, put a coat of polyurethane on first so the knot doesn’t bleed through.
The assembly is pretty straight forward. Nothing tricky on this build.
I put the cubby pieces in place as a guide while I screwed the bottom piece into place. Then I glued and nailed them.
Here is the finished product.
It is the perfect amount of storage and it gives an added dose of pretty.
My daughter is very excited to have all her favorite items right at her fingertips.
