School may have already started in your area, but around here we are just gearing up for hectic mornings and afternoons filled with homework. Organization is key to keeping me from becoming a lunatic trying to get all the kids out the door on time. A well organized command center can help keep things running smoothly.
My lack of lunacy actually begins the night before. The kids have to have their outfits picked out and ready to go, right down to the shoes. Keeping outfits organized in a closet hanger like this one, keeps clothes off the floor and allows for a separate place for shoes.
Kids then know exactly what to grab and there’s no clothes being thrown out of drawers while they look for their absolute favorite shirt (you know, the one they already wore twice that week.)
Getting them dressed is half the battle, but making sure they have their backpack, homework, and anything they need for sports, gym class, art or music is the other half.
I still think chalkboard walls are fun, and they are a great backdrop for a command center. They allow space for little notes and shopping lists here and there.
Add a clipboard for each child to keep important school papers like calendars and weekly schedules.
A wall organizer leaves a place for weekly homework, pens, pencils, chalk and dry erase markers.
A mirror is always a great addition, especially if the command center is something you pass on your way out the door. Making sure your hair doesn’t look like you just rolled out of bed is always a plus.
Some inspirational wall art is always helpful on tough mornings. And coffee, lots of coffee.
Finally, a basket on the floor or some hooks on the wall, are great spots to store backpacks. Have them all packed with homework the night before and they will be ready for a lunch bag and to skip out the door (hopefully on time.)
Above all else, remember the days of packing them up and sending them off to school are going to end someday, and you may just miss all the crazy mornings. Cherish them.
