One of my family’s most favorite things to do is play family friendly board games. We turn to board games on rainy weekend afternoons, sick days, lazy mornings, late nights, and just about any other time we can.
I still remember playing games with my grandmother when I was little and I hope that when my kids are older they keep some memories of crazy family game nights tucked into their hearts.
I thought I would share some of the favorites we own and play, and then share some that are on the wish list this year.

The classic whodunit game. Maybe it was Professor Plum in the library with a candlestick….My 7 year old needs a little help with this one but my 9 year old plays it like a champ.
Super fun game of following the directions on the cards and figuring out who to say Sorry! to when you send them packing back to their start.
Part of me thinks I need to have a drink after this game, or maybe during. Every turn leaves you stressing over knocking the entire tower over!
My kids have been playing this since they were 4, but we may have been easy on them and gave them a big chance to capture our flag before we got to theirs. These days we play no holds barred and they still kick our butts.
Nothing says fun like waiting to get slapped in the face with a handful of whipped cream!
This one is a lot like sorry but it has that fun pop bubble you get to push 🙂
They have some fun alternatives to the original as well.
We all know Trivial Pursuit is a looooooong game, but it is fun and educational. This version has cards for the kids and for the adults so it makes it much easier on the kiddos.
Backgammon is a great strategic game. I still have no idea how to play but my kids and my husband play together all the time and they love it.
Plot out your course and find your opponents ship. We all remember the commercial, right? “Awww, you sank my battleship.”
Does your person wear glasses? How about a hat? Use yes or no questions to figure out what character card your opponent is holding.
Some Games on Our Christmas List
These are games we don’t own but we are keeping on our “To Buy” list!
Such a classic game, I can’t believe we don’t own it already but it will make a great stocking stuffer. (PS if you need some other great stocking stuffer ideas, I put some together for you just click HERE.)
I’m not saying they are getting it, but they really want this game! You ultimately get sprayed in the face with water out of the toilet.
I have no idea how my daughter found this game but you basically wrap your thumbs tight to your hand and then have to do some fun challenges lacking those treasured opposable digits.
I hope you choose a couple of these games to add to your arsenal and have some amazing family game nights in your future!
