I’m kicking off my holiday season with a purple and gold DIY ornament that I made for another blogger. DIYers have to get their craft on early, or nothing gets finished. To help us get started, Erlene at My Pinterventures partnered 80+ bloggers to exchange ornaments and we want to share our creations and special finds with you! From November 1st through the 14th, this group of ladies will be sharing ornament tutorials or shopping trips to give you lots of holiday inspiration.
Now its time to get down to business!
My ornament was going to Anima at This Design Journal. She shares all her wonderfully crafty ideas on her blog. This year Anima was keeping to a purple and gold theme. So off I went in search of some supplies. I picked up, and put down, many different ribbons, embellishments and cutesy Christmas things but I ended up with this group: gold cord, gold fluffy ribbon, purple ornament, purple sequins and a hot glue gun.
I planned on wrapping the ornament in the gold cord but I wanted the base of a purple ornament so the color could peek through in any gaps. So I got to gluing….and gluing…and some more gluing!
I started at the top, added a small amount of hot glue and attached the cord, working in small sections so the glue didn’t cool before I got to it.
At the bottom I just twirled the gold cord in a circle and it made a very neat ending.
To finish the top, I put some glue into the hole where I removed the silver topper and stuck the gold cord into it to make a hanger.
Then I added the fluffy ribbon around the neck of the ornament for something fun. It reminds me of The Grinch’s fluffy collar. I am a huge fan of The Grinch.
It looked cute but it needed a little more pizzaz. If sequins doesn’t equal pizzaz then I don’t know what does!
A little dot of hot glue and plunk on a sequins and you have yourself some glam.
And there ya have it, my first ornament of the season, and its a gift which is what it is all about after all.
