I’m late on my $100 Room Challenge update but I wanted to give you a sneak peak at my DIY plank wall progress.
This week I was able to get my plank wall completed. I had the boards left over from my dining room project so they didn’t eat into my budget but don’t worry, this isn’t an expensive look to achieve.
Actual shiplap, a la Joanna Gaines, can get expensive. It is gorgeous, don’t get me wrong, but it is expensive when you are trying to cover an entire wall or an entire room. Instead of that, my wall is planked with 1/4″ plywood that had been ripped down into 6″ strips. Had I needed to buy it for this project, it would have cost about $25.
I will not be painting this wall. I love the cozy feel that the unfinished wood grain brings into this space. It adds some rustic charm that tends to show up throughout my house.
I was also able to lower my television a bit, remove the big black cabinet from the space, add some trim to the windows and start painting all the moulding in the room.
If painting all the moulding was the only thing I managed to do in this room, it would have made a huge difference. Seeing the little sunlight we get in this bedroom coming through, bouncing off the white really has changed this room from a bit dreary to a much brighter space.
I was also able to hang my curtains back up with a rod that isn’t hanging out of the wall, ready to fall on our heads. It was left over from the dining room where I did away with curtains all together. Luckily, there is no evidence that I have been push pinning my curtains up for a week. Sleeping without having the dark abyss of woods looming outside is a must for me. Anyone else have a thing about dark woods at night? Spoooooooky.
I honestly felt like there wasn’t a ton of progress this week, but I guess there was.
All that’s left is some paint and some finishing touches. Off I go to rummage through my decorations to find some things to make this room all come together.
